What a daily loss limit does
A daily loss limit (DLL) caps how much your account may lose in one trading day. Depending on the firm, hitting it either fails the account (a hard breach) or only stops trading until the next session (a soft breach). It sits on top of the maximum drawdown, which is the limit for the whole account.
On a firm with no daily loss limit there is only one line that can end the account: the maximum drawdown. 14 of 78 firms (18%) in our data have no daily loss limit on their main program.
Worked example: $1,200 lost in one morning
Take a real product: Take Profit Trader Test 50K. Its maximum drawdown is $2,000 and it has no daily loss limit. Suppose you lose $1,200 before lunch.
With no daily limit you still have $800 of drawdown left, and nothing stops you from trading the rest of the day. That is the advantage: one bad morning does not end the account if you stop in time.
Compare Topstep Trading Combine 50K, which has a $1,000 daily loss limit and $2,000 maximum drawdown. The same $1,200 loss is beyond its daily limit, so the day is over (or the account, if the breach is hard).
The flip side: without a daily limit, nothing protects you from yourself. A revenge-trading afternoon can take the whole drawdown in one session. Many traders set their own daily stop (for example a third of the drawdown) in the platform.
Where the no-DLL firms are
Daily limits are more common in forex and CFD evaluations, where a cap of a few percent of the starting balance per day is typical. Futures firms more often skip the daily limit and rely on a trailing drawdown instead, which can be stricter overall.

Things to check before you buy
“No daily loss limit” in our table describes the firm’s main program. Check these points on the firm page:
- Whether the funded (paid-out) account adds a daily limit that the evaluation did not have.
- Whether other programs from the same firm have a DLL (we only list the main one here).
- The drawdown type: no daily limit on a trailing intraday drawdown is still a tight account.
- Any “daily pause” or soft limit that the firm does not call a daily loss limit.
FAQ
Is a prop firm with no daily loss limit easier to pass?
It is more forgiving of one bad day, because only the maximum drawdown can end the account. It is not automatically easier: the profit target, drawdown type and consistency rules matter more. Compare the target-to-drawdown ratio in the table.
Can I lose the whole drawdown in one day without a daily limit?
Yes. With no daily loss limit nothing stops you from losing the full maximum drawdown in one session. Set your own daily stop in the platform if you want that protection.
What is the difference between a soft and a hard daily loss limit?
A hard limit fails the account when it is hit. A soft limit closes your positions and pauses trading until the next session, but the account survives. See our guide to soft and hard daily loss limits.
Do funded accounts have a daily loss limit when the evaluation did not?
Sometimes. Some firms add a daily limit or a daily pause on the funded account. Check the funded-account rules on the firm page before you buy.
